S'mores and Their Variations
Nov 15th 2018
S'mores are a well-known favorite around the campfire. The popular name for this treat derives from two common words: some and more. These two words were combined to create the word "s'mores" because people often wanted seconds after having one serving. The s'more was created in the 20th century by campers. Today, there are many different variations of this popular treat.
The Chili S'more
The Chili s'more is a favorite of some campers who like a little bit of spice! You make the s'more as you normally would and on top of the marshmallow, sprinkle chili flakes or chili dust and top it off with a graham cracker. It can be an acquired taste and isn't for everyone, but some people are in love with the combination of spicy and chocolate.
The Triple Decker
Many people make the triple decker s'more to avoid going back for seconds. This s'more is three layers of chocolate, marshmallow, crunchy goodness. Starting with a graham cracker at the bottom as your foundation, top it with a gooey, roasted marshmallow. The second layer of the s'more consists of chocolate and a marshmallow. The third and final layer consists of chocolate and another marshmallow just like the second layer and is topped with a graham cracker. Don't try to fit this much s'more goodness in your mouth at once!
The Elvis
The Elvis is a variation of s'more that is all rock and roll. For some people, this s'more is an ultimate classic. If you're a bacon lover, this treat may be right up your alley. This s'more variation is named the Elvis because it contains all of the King's favorites, such as peanut butter, bananas and bacon. Sandwiched thickly between two graham crackers are layers of bananas, peanut butter and let's not forget the bacon!
Salted Caramel
Are you a salted caramel fan? The salted caramel s'more tastes like a dream come true in your mouth while the crunchy graham cracker seals the deal by adding a crunchy texture to the mix. Imagine two graham crackers holding a roasted marshmallow and a thick square of chocolate with caramel drizzled over it with salt granules on top. Or use salted caramels available at some grocery stores and specialty shops. Sounds like heaven right?
The Reese's S'more
What's better than chocolate and peanut butter? The Reese's s'more puts a spin on the original s'more by adding peanut butter to the mix. This s'more has Reese's cups, roasted marshmallows and graham crackers. One graham cracker is placed on the bottom, one marshmallow is added and topped with a graham cracker. The next layer is a copy of the bottom layer with a Reese's cup on top of the graham cracker and a marshmallow on top of the Reese's cup. The graham cracker tops off the Reese's s'more creation.
S'moreos
S'moreos may be another great s'more variation that is better than sliced bread. The s'moreo uses Oreos instead of graham crackers. The Oreo cream filled cookies sandwich two pieces of chocolate and a roasted marshmallow. Too much chocolate or not enough? This variation of a s'more is a favorite of many s'more aficionados. It's simple and easy to make and they taste great.
Nutella S'mores
Some people prefer Nutella s'mores instead of classic s'mores. What's the difference? Nutella s'mores use Nutella spread instead of chocolate on the graham crackers. This s'more variation keeps the marshmallow but is topped with chopped hazelnuts. A lot of people use the Nutella s'more as a healthier alternative to the classic s'more.
Mint S'mores
Calling all mint lovers! The mint s'mores put an interesting twist on the classic s'more recipe by removing the chocolate bars and replacing them with peppermint patties. The mint s'more is a double-layered s'more that includes a peppermint patty, marshmallows and three graham crackers. The bottom layer is always the graham cracker for a sturdy foundation. The peppermint patty is placed on top of the graham cracker and topped with a marshmallow and another graham cracker is placed on top as the foundation of the second layer. The second layer follows suite of the first layer and topped with a graham cracker to complete the mint s'more creation.
There are many different variations of s'mores that you can consume to indulge your taste buds. You can use these variations for inspiration to create your own s'more variation. The possibilities for great taste is unlimited!
